Having been involved in several social movements, Dr. Max Liboiron said the training they provided, particularly in consensus-based decision-making and collective leadership, informed their approach to forming a lab.

“When I started a lab, as many professors get to do when they get a job in a university, I wanted to use those principles,” they explained.

They explained that justice-oriented or community-based science serves the community — especially Indigenous communities— and addresses power dynamics in research.” …
